Water line repair and replacement

From the meter to the house, we can have the line located.

The service line between the meter and your foundation is the hardest working pipe you own, and the one nobody thinks about until the yard is soft or the meter spins with everything off. Line failures rarely announce themselves indoors first.

We locate before we dig. Acoustic and pressure testing narrows the failure to feet, not zones, which is the difference between a surgical repair and a trench across your whole yard. Where soil and routing allow, trenchless replacement pulls a new line through the path of the old one and leaves your landscaping largely alone.

Older neighborhoods across Homewood, Hueytown and Bessemer still run galvanized service lines that are past their design life. If yours fails once, the honest conversation includes what the rest of the line looks like, and we will have that conversation with numbers, not fear.

What we handle

  • Spot repairs where the line is otherwise healthy
  • Full service line replacement, trenched or trenchless
  • Pressure regulator and main shut-off replacement
  • Coordination with the utility and required inspections

Signs of a failing service line

  • A soft or soggy patch of yard that never dries
  • The water meter moving with every fixture off
  • A sudden drop in pressure at every fixture at once
  • Rusty or discolored water at the first draw of the morning
  • A water bill jump you cannot explain

Where we do this work

Common questions

Asked and answered

Is trenchless replacement always possible?

Not always. Rock, tight bends, certain pipe materials and utility conflicts rule it out. We locate the line and the failure first, then price trenchless pulling and open trench side by side where both are viable, so the tradeoff between yard disruption and cost is your call with real numbers.

Will homeowners insurance cover a failed water line?

Policies vary widely on underground service lines, and many carriers sell service line coverage as a separate rider precisely because the standard policy excludes it. We document the failure, the location and the repair with photographs either way, so whatever your policy says, you have what a claim requires.

How long does a replacement take?

Most residential water line replacements are done in a day, including the inspection. Long runs, rock, or conflicts with gas and communication utilities can add a second day, and we will say so before we start, not at five o'clock.

Why did my water bill suddenly jump?

A supply line leak between the meter and the house is the usual culprit, and it can run for months invisibly under a lawn. The test takes two minutes: shut everything off inside and watch the meter. If it is still turning, the leak is on your side of the meter and locating it is exactly what we do. Bring us the bill and we will make sense of it.

What pipe do you use for a new water line?

High density polyethylene or PEX rated for direct burial on most residential services, sized to the fixture count of the house rather than simply matching whatever was there. Old galvanized services in this area often choked flow for decades, so a correctly sized new line frequently improves pressure at every fixture in the house, not just the leak.
